I Got This...

Everyone who knows me knows that Im a huge fan of Jennifer Hudson. I loved her right from her days on American Idol till now. I watched Dreamgirls because of her, not Beyonce. So it only made sense to get a copy of her second studio album, I Remember Me. All I can say is ... Wow! The woman is a diva....

I quickly fell in love with the second track on the album "I Got This." This song talks about determination in spite of all the stumbling blocks that may be faced along the way. This song has become my personal anthem. Hope the lyrics of the chorus show what I mean.

If Only?

It probably wasn't until I started puting on weight that I started to see how men see the world, how they check out women's bodies. Anytime I spot an attractive lady walking around, I look at all the men around. It's amazing, men who are alone or with other men look brazenly. Even men who are with women  look.

Anyway, last week I was talking with a male friend when this gorgeous lady in high heels struts her stuff past us, I turned and realised - everyone was staring at her. Even my friend. Now, when I told him to stop looking at her all he said was "Afua, you are a pretty girl but you would be getting these kind of stares if only, you would lose some pounds". To say I felt wounded would be putting it lightly...  I guess he realised that what he said hurt me so he apologised but hey, we already know what he was thinking...

So, as I posted my weight change on my weight loss blog, I asked myself, do all guys look at me and think the same thing? Hmmm... If only....

Making It Happen!!!!!

She was sitting on the pavement floor.

3 months pregnant; baby’s daddy unknown

Had to drop out of JSS

Cus she couldn’t take the scorn

How could they have known?

Gang rape at a leavers jam, an unlikely probability

But she still braces herself with tear filled eyes and says……

Rent is due

All he has is an empty bank account and a week’s eviction notice

Lost his job

Accused of a crime he didn’t commit

Now peers are telling him to steal and sell drugs

In the midst of his confusion

He closes his eyes, clasps his hands in prayer and says…….

I will not bend or be broken

I will make things happen the right way

In this life

No matter what you go through

Never ever give up

Or do things through the back door

Cus the moment you do

You lose everything

You can make it happen
